Commercial Photography FAQs

How are your photography rates determined?

Commercial photography is priced on the basis of time, number of files delivered and expenses.  We have hourly, ½ day, daily, and weekly rates.   In addition to these time rates, there is a charge for each finished file delivered along with any additional expenses incurred.

What kind of expenses are charged for?

Each photography assignment is unique, so the expenses are different with each shoot. We will work with you beforehand to determine what is needed. Some examples of additional expenses are travel, meals, model fees, additional insurance, set building props, equipment rental, and film and processing (yes, some jobs still require film).

How can I get an accurate price quote?

If you can describe your needs, and the specific images you want, we can give you an estimate of the fees. Should there be a need to add images after the original estimate. We will be happy to rebid the job.

Are you insured?

Yes, we carry liability insurance to protect ourselves and our customers against unforeseen events. When necessary, we will be happy to provide a certificate of insurance.

How do I avoid paying sales tax when I am exempt from sales tax?

Simply provide us a copy of the tax exemption certificate from your state, and there will be no state sales tax added to your invoice.

What is your pricing for business portraits?

For individuals in the studio or on-location is determined per person, with a price break for multiple individuals during the same time slot. An additional fee is required for on-location sessions for us to move our studio to you.

Where do you take the images on location?

We can use your building as a background or set up a studio background for you. Talk to us about the possibilities.

Portrait Photography FAQs

How much do you charge for personal portraits?

Prices are based on the creation of the image and the final product you would like. Session Fees are for the creation of the images only and are based on the number of people and how long we photograph. Digital file prices are based on the number of files you would like and we do have packages available. Travel fee is required for those who like travel outside city limits. Individuals, Seniors or Families; we will be happy to email you a Price list on request.

Do you do printing?

I sell both print and digital images. My digital packages include a set number of digital images and some gift prints. Larger sized wall portraits are my specialty, we use a professional lab to make the best quality prints. Our prices are not unreasonable and are discounted for your convenience. Retail store printers lack the finesse for good color and generally washed out and high in contrast. If you choose to print your own, we will be happy to help you find a reputable lab. You will receive a print release for your order.

What should I wear?

Clothing, please! I have had years of experience helping clients determine the best choices for their portraits. We can discuss this at the time you book your session. If you are still in question, we can discuss it further any time before your shoot.

Will every image be available to me?

No. Following each session I cull through the images and remove duplicate images, all test shots, “stinkies or blinkies” or any shot that is not up to my standard. If you are looking for a "spray and pray" photographer I am most likely not a good fit

Will all my images be retouched?

All final ordered images will be retouched. When you first see them, I will have retouched one or two as an example. Once you order your final images, I will then enhance light and shadow, colors, remove blemishes and flyaway hairs etc. I never remove your unique characteristics; I just give you a great night’s sleep.

Additional or extensive retouching is available on a per image basis. This is an additional charge of $25.00 an image. Items included in this service are logo removal from clothing, hair-root touch ups, contouring and body slimming and head replacement in families.

Do you do mini sessions?

Nope, quality takes time. If you feel rushed that will show in your images. I am dedicated to providing the highest level of shooting, retouching and attention to detail that you can find. Some types of sessions do take longer than you would think.

Why is professional photography so expensive?

There are so many factors that determine the costs involved in any product or service. In the case of professional photography, those factors include experience, education, cost of equipment and upgrades, licenses, insurance, and the list goes on. In addition, a client sees the time a photographer puts into taking the picture, but rarely sees the behind the scenes work. We start with preparation before the shoot to make everything go smoothly. We have redundant equipment in case of a breakdown. After the shoot, there is the post production. Retouching and enhancement of the images can take much more time than taking the pictures, but it is necessary to provide you with the best possible final product. Then there is the time to prep images for storage, and the cost for off-site backups. With these and more expenses, taken into account, the price for professional photography isn’t really so high.
